INAUGURATION DAY 2017
by Joan V. Liebermann
My grandmother
uncertain of her deported family’s fate
wore black
for four years
when wearing black
was not chic.
My closet
a swath of black
stippled with olive green or navy blue
favors irregular hemlines
unusual details
architectural angles.
With each addition to
the monochrome palette
my son asks
another black dress?
Slimming
easy to mix and match I say
donning a formal black suit
for the funeral.
