ROOM:2.26
Coping Strategy
by John Pring

I open and climb back inside
the wardrobe, coats hanging
over me like pheasants
strung above my father’s door.
On the phone you are promising
to forgive me, your voice
cracking and then crackling
back into static.
By morning the storm has passed,
and I find light overcoming
the house, as though it had
waited all night to be let back in.
